Children's Education and Care

Working with children can be incredibly rewarding and choosing to be an Early Childhood and Care Professional allows students to build the skills to pursue this worthwhile and in-demand career path. These professionals contribute significantly to a child's life by helping to shape attitudes toward themselves, others and to learning.

CIT’s Children’s Education and Care programs allow students to learn about children through observation, discussion and practical experience, and to develop interpersonal skills and team work strategies. It features practical units aimed at nurturing your understanding of child development and behaviour and to build your skills and abilities in caring for children.

During the Certificate III program, students work on building the knowledge and skills to assist in the planning of learning environments and experiences for young children, as well as provide for their physical and emotional care.

Those who advance to diploma-level study are given the opportunity to lead teams, manage programs and design and implement curriculum for children in Early Childhood Education and Care services.

Students will undertake a series of four 120 hour professional work placements, at four different childcare centres, fully coordinated by CIT staff. These are unpaid however they are great networking opportunities and can eventually lead to casual, part-time employment.
