Overview

Develop an in-demand skillset and become a standout beauty or spa therapist with a CIT Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy. Our nationally recognised, dynamic program is delivered by highly experienced and qualified teachers with current industry experience, leading learners through everything from eyelash extension to stone therapy massage.

Following industry trends and techniques, foundation beauty skills include airbrushed makeup, cosmetic tanning and waxing. As students advance through their studies, they learn the art of skin and facial care and branch out into nail treatments, spa therapies, aromatherapy and more. These practical skills are developed and supported by practice with clients in our commercial salons, allowing you to graduate with the confidence and skills to interact and engage with proficiency. Graduates will be ‘job ready’ to practice and demonstrate the professional skills required for beauty and spa therapists.

At the conclusion of their studies, students will be able to prepare their makeup clients for weddings, formals, photo shoots and more, as well as being skilled in giving facials, massages and relaxation treatments to clients in spa and beauty salon environments.

This Australian national qualification ensures graduates complete in the program with the skills, knowledge and etiquette comparable to international grading bodies and training curriculums including:

  • CIDESCO - Comité International d'Esthétique et de Cosmétologie
  • ITEC – International Therapy Examination Council
  • CIBTAC- Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology

Job Opportunities

Skilled beauty therapist in the beauty, massage & make-up services stream of the beauty industry.

Teaching Methods and Assessment

This program is delivered using a variety of teaching methods including face-to-face lecture style or smaller tutorial groups, learning in simulated beauty salons and on-line learning through e-Learn.

Predominantly students will be assessed through a formal observation checklist according to the required skills and knowledge of the subject within a salon environment on a client. The times and dates can often be negotiated between yourself and the teacher, however assessments are identified and scheduled within a time range at the beginning of each subject. Assessment outcomes are based on competency. You will generally have a small amount of theory based assessment which will normally be in an online quiz format or on the Client Consultation Sheet.

Pathways to Further Study

Students who successfully complete the Certificate IV in Beauty Therapy can go on to study the Diploma of Beauty Therapy at CIT. Students who successfully complete the Diploma of Beauty Therapy and gain entry into Torrens University (Melbourne) will receive 80 credit points (1 year) towards the Bachelor of Health Science (Aesthetics).

Students are advised to speak directly with universities in relation to course choices and pathways.
