Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) has contracted with the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to give international students the opportunity to be hosted by a specially trained AHN homestay host for their introduction to accommodation and living in Australia.

AHN is considered to be the leading Australian Homestay Manager and is committed to meeting the well-published Australian Homestay Standards. AHN has been chosen by the Institute to ensure the best welcoming experience possible for international students.

Homestay is a cultural exchange between a local individual or family (called a host) and a visiting international student. It is a wonderful way to share a unique cultural experience.

Homestay hosts will help international students settle in to Canberra and provide advice on general safety, accommodation and welfare information.

An International student can initially book an AHN hosted homestay placement for 2-4 weeks as part of their orientation to Australia. Students also have the option to extend their original homestay placement after this period.

AHN hosts provide a clean and basically furnished bedroom for their guest. This includes items like a bed, desk, wardrobe, chair and a study lamp.  The visiting student will have access to bathroom and laundry facilities and can choose from a range of meal service options.

It’s all about the student experience...

An AHN homestay can provide students with wonderful experiences and memories that last a lifetime.

Students will enjoy everyday activities with their AHN homestay host including:

  • Orientation with the local community
  • Help with the basics of Australian culture
